I had Mooers for Online Introductory Astronomy. I liked the subject, but I was not very impressed with his recorded lectures. Also there was no real feedback from him, and it took about 12 or 13 weeks to get grades back on homework from the beginning of class. He was hit or miss with answering emails, so if you have a real problem you probably would do better to hunt him down in person. I had more than one email never answered. The class used the Mastering Astronomy online program for the bulk of tests and homework. The first couple of weeks of homework was really frustrating learning to use the program, but once accustomed to the system it became pretty easy, but time consuming. And, with that part you got instant feedback so one almost didn't need a teacher for this class. I gave up listening to the lectures after the 12th week. However, he seems like a nice guy, and seems to know his stuff, if you don't mind the rambling "absent minded professor" type lectures. I got a good grade in the class, and liked the subject a lot, but if you have a hard time learning on your own you might not want to take this as an online class. |
